Overview
​​
The Children's Hospital Los Angeles Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine Center (CHLA PPSMC) addresses the urgent need to train a diverse group of pediatric pulmonology and sleep medicine leaders to care and advocate for a culturally and linguistically diverse population of children and youth with special healthcare needs in Los Angeles. The CHLA PPSMC Leadership Program will develop leaders in Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine in six core disciplines including medicine, nursing, nutrition, social work, psychology, and respiratory care.

Purpose
​​
The CHLA PPSMC Leadership Program, will develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to be local, national, and international leaders in the field of Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine. The CHLA PPSMC Leadership Program, will have a core group of six interdisciplinary disciplines representing pediatric pulmonary medicine, nursing, nutrition, social work, psychology and respiratory therapy. We will also invite key PPSMC members including our Family Leader, pharmacists, occupational therapist, physical therapists and education colleagues.

Training
​
The CHLA PPSMC Leadership Program, curriculum is an integration of the Maternal and Child Health Leadership Competencies framework, a Life Course approach to health and the American Board of Pediatrics content for Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine. Through a 9-month program ( >300 hours of participation) the annual cohort will have a variety of educational experiences that include didactic presentations by faculty and peers with group discussion, group leadership sessions, simulation, workshop experiences, clinical exposure, community interaction, advocacy and policy work.

Research
​
The CHLA PPSMC trainees with participate in a personalized research project, a group quality improvement project, and will participate in a 10-week introduction to research course.
